Lisbon

Lisbon is the capital city of Portugal, though this was not always the case. The colourful culture and long history are one of the great charms of the city. This region is particularly famous for its Fado which is traditionally a melancholic song, full of emotion that addresses cruel twists of fate in one’s life and lovers lost. No fadista is more famous than Amália Rodrigues and I encourage you to listen to some of her music so that you can get a feel for what fado is all about. History and Lisbon may as well be synonymous with its Roman ruins, medieval churches and 1000 year old castle. If you like history then you will certainly feel at home. Lisbon has a wonderful nightlife both in the region of Bairro Alto and the Alfama regions and range anywhere from small pubs to booming clubs. Long story short if you are visiting Portugal try not to miss out on this highly diverse city.
