Casa da Música

Easily the best concert hall in Porto and huge cultural hub.

The Casa da Música in Porto is the quintessential stop for those who are passionate about music. This building was constructed in 2001 and is not only a concert hall but a place where one can learn about music and its production. In fact one of the attractive components of the hall is that they actually provide you with tutorial lessons on music production and allow you to take home a CD with the material you produced. Everything about this building is state of the art and magnificent. If you feel like taking a break and just hanging out then the hall also has a cafe where you can chat with a friend over a coffee and some excellent pastries. But that’s not all, the hall also boasts 4 bars and a great restaurant. Music is only one interesting facet to the hall and architectural design is surely the other. The exterior of the hall itself is simple with bold edges while the surrounding parquet floor makes it look like it is in the midst of waves. Due to the parquet floor design, it is not uncommon to see skate boarders just hanging around and taking advantage of the slopes.

This building is truly beautiful and has a unique urban appeal. I was fortunate enough to catch a presentation by the Porto Symphony on the works of Mahler. I was blown away and highly recommend this place to everyone that pays a visit to Porto especially since its so easily accessible by the metro.
